This is a great little unit, but if your experience is like mine you'll need to possess a voltmeter and be prepared to do a little soldering first. If yours doesn't work as expected, suspect the 5V rail is faulty. Mine was only 2V - not enough for much to happen at all. A quick check of the 78M05 5V regulator showed only a couple of volts going in. In the image you can see i mistakenly pulled out the main smoothing electro first, but the root cause is "R23", which to my decaying eyes appears to be 330 ohm resistor in series with the input, depriving the voltage regulator of a useful enough voltage on which to do anything. You only need to short that out with a good solder blob from the cathode end of D1 to the bottom of R23 (shows as the top in my image) for your full 12 or 24V input to be applied to the 78M05 and all will be a source of joy. (24V in for 5V out is well within its rating). With that fix applied it's a much happier unit - as am I. If you're able to perform the above surgery it's a good little investment, however if that's not your area of expertise then steer well clear of this device. - G.
