Put a 9 volt battery in it and it was ready to go. it has a fairly loud sound should be able to hear from basement to main floor. It makes a beeping sound.

These are great, place any where you think you may have a leak. I've bought a few of them now. Great for gifts too. Saves you from expensive water damages.

Would had be nice to have some instructions, hope I will be able to see if they take batteries from the web page. looks like they take a 9volt battery, I see they unscrew to open all is well

Takes a 9V battery. Detects conductivity between three metal points that are held about 1/2mm above a mounting surface. Works just fine.
