Small module with microUSB connector, good for 5v arduino projects. However for 3.3v projects, the voltage on the 3v3 pin is actually 4.3v as are the voltages on the RX/TX line at idle. Apparently this is due to the RST input being tied not to 3.3 V out but to the Vbus in (5V) which back feeds into the 3.3V line pulling it up above spec; cut the trace you see coming from pin 9 before it reaches the capacitor, then optionally pull it to 3.3 via a 4k7 resistor to pin 6.

I downloaded the driver from http://www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers On receipt 1 worked OK two I got windows doesn't recognize errors or the device has missbehaved or the ! in device manager. IN fact all three were a bit flakey. Then I tried another PC and all worked without problems. The first PC also had a USB3 connector when I tried that port all worked without trouble. It appears then that these devices can be a bit picky on the port they are plugged into. The data sheet for the cp2102 suggests a 4k7 resistor from the reset pin pin9 to the Vdd pin pin 6 to improve noise immunity this doesn't appear to be present. None the less when it works it works fine

If you purchase this item to program Arduinos, be careful, as the DTR pin can not be directly connected to the RST pin on the Arduino. The solution: Take a 0.1µF ceramic capacitor (104 marking), and put one pin on the DTR pin of this adapter, and the other pin on the RST of your Arduino. The auto reset should work fine now! I also found out the bottom LED is not the power LED (there is none), but the USB suspend line. If the LED is OFF, it means that the adapter is sleeping. This means, it will consume less power than when it's awake. This feature is great too! The adapter will become active again when you try to communicate with it. This means that the LED will come on again. Again, pleased with the product, and I will buy again from Banggood!
