I really enjoyed assembling the kit, it was a bit of a challenge for me being a beginner. But can someone tell me what do you do with this ammeter? Do you just hook it up to a circuit to see what the amps are. I don't understand why it says to calibrate from a certain amount of distance.

Fastelectrics You will need to connect it in series with the device that you want to check the current draw. It looks like it is DC only. Do not connect it directly across the battery or power supply.

AndyS Here's a link that is quite helpful http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/textbook/experiments/chpt-2/ammeter-usage/ you measure the current in a circuit at a single point instead of across components. The calibration means it should be 100Mv between feet numbers 35 and 36, they are the feet numbers of the component not the distance you need to be away from it , the component has 40 feet in total.
