Heats like hell, so definitely it should be at least partially outside TX. But I was able to extend range from about 140m to above 600m - possibly even more, because I was losing FPV signal, but not control. Also if you not put the power, you will still get about 80% of original range.
Backside is that LED is weak and it would be wise to put extra heatsink on this when you plan to use it.
