I ordered 5 of these things (at 7.99, now it is lower, wish I waited) and received them at the back end of the upgraded date range I expected to get them in. The price of the shipping upgrade was very reasonable also. It looked like BangGood was going to miss the deadline but they got them to me in 9 days. WELL DONE! All the units powered up and performed as expected. They are clean, production run, and what I wanted. The problem? BangGood's packaging. It's just plain awful! Wrapped in what looks like a garbage bag, and inside, the units were wrapped in a big piece of anti-static wrap. One unit actually fell out and was free-floating in the garbage-like bag. They were individually packaged, as expected, set in a cut piece of anti-static material, but, the device was pushed so far into the material that the pins actually came out the individual packaging and were exposed! Customer service was not very good but they were prompt with personal replies. The issue I had with them is it took a few days to ship, so if you upgrade to the 6-9 day option, expect it in 9 days and forget about getting it early. Still, they did what they said they would do and that’s good enough for me. I have seen these on eBay for much higher. Banggood has a lot of neat gear and at great prices. Maybe that is why their packaging is so bad. I would have liked my items in an anti-static envelope or a box at least. I will buy from them again though. Thank you!

This is really nicely built board. Besides built in WiFI, great thing is that ESP8266 is really popular, so there are lot of tutorials and libraries for it. If you need more power or bluetooth connectivity you might consider getting ESP32 board: http://bit.ly/2x3Teik

The products works like using an arduino. (There is another way with Lua, but I haven't looked for it yet.) The quickest way to get started is 1. connect the board with a USB cable to your computer 2. Go to Adafruit site https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-huzzah-esp8266-breakout/using-arduino-ide 3. Here you can see how to add a new board by installing the BOARD PACKAGE: Preferences Arduino IDE (1.6.4 or higher) , additional board manager url: http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json 4. Then goto boards and 'Board Manager' to add esp8266. 5. Then restart the menu and select the board: 'nodeMCU 1.0' 6. Port must be WCH etc. as is written in the product description (maybe you should add drivers that are listed there.) The SSID of the board was DoitWifi, but I haven't figured out the password yet. Also It wouldn't connect to my Apple Wifi, so I connected to ExperiaBox wifi.

To communicate with this module via USB you will need a terminal emulator (I used "CoolTerm") and a CH340 driver. To install the driver, I used the instructions at http://0xcf.com/2015/03/13/chinese-arduinos-with-ch340-ch341-serial-usb-chip-on-os-x-yosemite/. This doit.am version wakes up running a wireless access point with SSID DoitWiFi. If you connect to this access point and then point your web browser to http://192.168.1.1. This will show you a web page that lets you toggle the voltage on a couple of the hardware pins. If you set D0 to 0, a blue light on the board goes on. To connect to the access point you need a password. It's specified on the doit.am site as 12345678, but that did not work for me. You can, however, easily change the password via the USB interface, with code like this: cfg={} cfg.ssid="DoitWiFi" cfg.pwd="password" wifi.ap.config(cfg)

Pro: - uses the USB to serial chip CH340 which works well under both Linux and Windows - the better antenna design - okay price - no problem to run 24/7 Cons: - none Strongly suggesting to also buy Banggood DIY Oled Module SSD1306: https://www.banggood.com/0_91-Inch-128x32-IIC-I2C-Blue-OLED-LCD-Display-DIY-Oled-Module-SSD1306-Driver-IC-DC-3_3V-5V-p-1140506.html Enjoy with Steam Hardware Authenticator on it: https://github.com/ran-sama/steam_hardware_authenticator (Thanks to the customer support who had to help me.)

I bought one of these to develop software for Sonoff relays (given they share the main architecture). It works very well and it is very convenient as it has a microusb connection. The packaging was adequate with plenty of foam protecting the unit, though maybe a little foam on the pins might help too as in my package they had punched through the ESD packaging. Still no harm done and it works flawlessly. Recommended

Good quality soldering elements, there are small traces of flux.
