Q: what makes this cost twice as much as the ft03? they seem to be about the same in lumens.

BG464857181 Youcould probably start your campfire with it too. Actually you might could use it as a campfire. Wieners and marshmallows would likely cook well. It gets hot very fast, but I kind of knew it would 15000 lumens is not going to run cool.
BG464857181 An18650 battery would work, but the high lumens and lower battery capacity and current would likely yield shorter run times and, or decreased lumens in turbo. Also the 18650 would get hotter. It appears not to have an adapter, so an 18650 might have issues with movement. Also, the 21700 battery will fill the battery tube to transfer heat to the aluminum body. Running an 18650 the light would likely dim quickly due to heat, and since it will not touch the sides, it will likely be slower to cool. Just better all the way around with a 21700. If you put it in an 18650 adapter, the battery might even get hot enough to get stuck in the tube. That might explain why it is not included. That is just a lot of lumens for a single 18650 battery. Hope this helps.

BG464857181 Many of these shipped with focus issues. It can be fixed with a reflector swap, but it still is not as impressive as I expected. When I bought mine it was about 4x the price of the FT03 SST40-W version.
