It comes with a warning that it will smoke on first use - listen to this warning and do it outside!! It sure does smoke - a lot, and it stinks - I cannot imagine you would want to breath it in. But as per the instructions, it only smokes the first time, and never again - now it works like any other soldering iron and seems to be pretty decent quality.
